Neuroquest: Order vs. Chaos

Neuroquest, Eyewire, citizen science, fantasy adventure

Having evidently satisfied your mysterious woodland guide by answering all the riddles, your party has been shown safely to the edge of the mighty forest. Yes, now you are certainly growing closer to your quest’s destination, for here roll the lush, green pastures of Neurondolin, and the Golden Ganglion grows not far beyond. This fair land was has been a beautiful elven kingdom for thousands of years. Needless to say, it’s very lucky for a little Neuro-Gnome to visit here.

Alas, as your party continues ahead, your luck may not be holding. Not only is your view obscured by the world’s increasing darkness, but you also hear the sounds of battle across the next ridge. Sneaking closer, you gaze at the combatants, and your elven mage examines them as well, murmuring in confusion, “How strange. All of them are the people of Neurondolin, but they seem to be in civil war with one another. Some carry the banner of Order, and others carry the banner of Chaos. O woe!”

It seems that quasi-immortal inhabitants of an earthly paradise sometimes have nothing better to do. When they spot you, they notice you’re holding the Goblet of Science, and the cry goes up: The Chosen One! The Chosen One! Even if you didn’t sign up to decide the fates of whole nations, it becomes rapidly clear that if you take a side, it will give them quite the morale boost. So… feel like a side quest?

Order:

  • Rules are rules! The only way to achieve fair results is to create good laws and make sure they’re enforced.
  • You dot your Is, cross your Ts, and whatever your feelings are about the Oxford comma, it’s a really big deal.
  • Whether you’re feeling selfless or selfish, you prefer to pursue your goals in ways that abide by societal standards, because they’re standards for a reason.

Chaos:

  • Rules were made to be broken! You feel better marching to your own beat.
  • If your own morals and priorities don’t happen to align with your peers’ expectations, that doesn’t concern you too much.
  • Whatever you’re trying to get done, if it comes to a choice then you’ll take your own authentic truth over adhering to guidelines that might be outdated, inefficient, or unhelpful.

When the battle is over, you’ll receive the following…
