Neuroquest: Evil Cubes

Neuroquest, Eyewire, citizen science, fantasy adventure

Having secured the Waters of Wisdom by correctly choosing the Goblet of Science, you have trekked on your perilous way across ancient and unknown lands, and in the insatiable curiosity belonging to all Neuro-Gnomes, you naturally couldn’t help taking a sip from the Goblet itself. Luckily, this served you well, for the Waters have given you supernatural knowledge of the whole geography of Eywir! Now you can travel safely without a map.

However, despite your heightened intellect, your party cannot yet control such things as the weather. Just when you are about to scale the next mountain range, a terrible tempest sweeps around you, pelting you with snow and hail! It would be best to hide somewhere and wait things out.

And so: you know there’s a cave entrance in the area, and you hurry toward it, taking shelter in the cold limestone walls. But here is something strange. As you venture inward, you and your party notice that the light of your torches is illuminating cubical crystals of immeasurable beauty. “These are the Caves of Carbonum!” you realize in awe. “And they should lead us right beneath the mountains.” You will save precious time by journeying through this little shortcut, and it’s a scenic route as well.

“But wait a moment,” says your elven mage. “Long has it been known that these legendary cubes of adamant have a sinister side. Their beauty may sing to us, and drive them mad! We must crush the cubes as we go, to spare our reason.” So off you go, down into the caves, looking for the exit, knowing that you must destroy this set of secretly evil cubes…
