Um, oops. Sorry. Let’s try that again. EyeWire… we have a problem.

The precise cause has yet to be identified, but while we at HQ are largely focused on matters of neuroscience, we have a bit of a physics challenge on our hands. Somehow, our cube spawner went on the fritz last night; although we managed some rudimentary repairs, we came in this morning to find ourselves behaving rather unusually. Extremely unusual, in fact, unless “walking and talking backwards” is normal for your own life.

Having figured out this oddity to some degree, I’m managing to type this correctly to you now by meticulously hitting every key in reverse order. But in the meantime, something is amiss with the timespace continuum around HQ. And our deepest fear is that as HQ slips back in time, we may not be able to figure out what’s wrong until it’s too late and even EyeWire itself disappears!

While we work to solve this mystery and sew up the timespace rift, we need your help! We have a whole bunch of challenges available for you, coming right up. If we can all band together, EyeWire will be saved.

*All times given are Eastern Daylight Time.*

Second session runs 10:00 PM to 11:59 PM on Friday 9/25

See if you have the precision to help sew up the timespace tear. Earn the usual Happy Hour bonuses, plus badges for 80%, 90%, and 95% accuracy. On TOP of the other points…

5 mugs, each given to top 5 players (based on accuracy)

1st Place Accuracy – 10,000 points
2nd Place Accuracy – 8,000 points
3rd Place Accuracy – 6,000 points
Achieve 95% Accuracy – 5,000 points
Achieve 90% Accuracy – 3,000 points
Achieve 80% Accuracy – 2,000 points
1,000 points for anyone under 80% who still plays at least 10 cubes in either slot.
(These bonus thresholds are non-cumulative, i.e. they will not combine. If you earn 3rd place, for instance, and presumably got over 95% accuracy, you still earn a 6,000 point bonus, not 11,000.)

Trivia + Trivia Power Hour

Ends 11:00 AM on Thursday 10/1

Finish a set of Evil Cubes that have poured into HQ from the timespace rift. Earn badges for 90% accuracy, 80% accuracy, and for generally completing all 12 cubes.

5 books, each given to top 5 players
10 mugs raffled for anyone who completes all cubes

1st Place Accuracy – 8,000 points
2nd Place Accuracy – 5,000 points
3rd Place Accuracy – 3,000 points
1,000 points for anyone under 80% accuracy who still plays all 12 cubes.

Ends at 10:00 AM on Wednesday 9/30

The madness continues (but does not conclude!) with a marathon on the Time Warp Cell, which will run for 24 hours.

1 sticker for each participant who clears the 20-cube minimum

Complete 20 Cubes – 2,000 point bonus
Complete 50 cubes – 5,000 point bonus
Complete 150 cubes – 20,000 point bonus
Complete 300 cubes – 40,000 point bonus
For every 150 cubes above 300 cubes – 2,500 points

If the cell is completed within 24 hrs, those marathon players who:

  • Anyone who completes at least 50 cubes will win rights to vote on a new name for the Time Warp Cell.
  • Anyone who completes at least 200 cubes will win rights to nominate a new name for the Time Warp Cell.

Begins at 11:00 AM on Wednesday 9/30
Ends at 11:00 AM on Friday 10/2

One of our very oldest challenge formats returns! 48 hours, 28 guesses, 12 mergers. Proximity to merger start point is determined by number of voxels (1 voxel = approx. 1/250th of a cube’s width). Mergers are only counted as found if guessed within a distance of 250 voxels.

6 clocks, each given to top 6 players

Each merger found – 1,000 points
7,500 additional points if all 12 are found
200 point bonus available on each merger to the player whose guess is closest
250 point bonus available to any player who guesses within 10 voxels of a merger

Retro Happy Hour

Begins at 2:00 PM on Friday 10/2
Ends at 4:00 PM on Friday 10/2

Just a usual Happy Hour… but with dire consequences at stake, including the fates of HQ and even EyeWire itself! Trace like the wind!
