Neuron Naming Rights: Geek Week Games Champions

eyewire neuron branches mapped by gamers MIT

Between Aug 4 and 10, we hosted the Geek Week Games in EyeWire. There were day challenges and an overall champion (congrats @susi). We also gave away neuron naming rights for the first time since The EyeWire Games back in Feb.

Over 3,000 players participated. Among those, 212 people won the right to vote on a neuron name for each of the cells completed during the challenge. Names they vote on come from you, the community. Specifically, players who completed over 300 cubes while maintaining at least 80% accuracy won the right to nominate names of actual neurons. One name has already been chosen by the crowd — but there are 3 more. This post is a shout out to the 26 players who qualified, generally both dominating the leaderboard and winning a chance to make history by naming a real neuron.

Check out the champions below, ranked by total cubes completed during the Geek Week Games. If you have an idea for a rad, entertaining or otherwise awesome neuron name you’re likely to find many of these ladies and gents in EyeWire chat. I hear some of them are open to suggestions 🙂
