Mecha Santa vs. Werewolves: The Epic Rivalry You Never Knew You Wanted

santa vs werewolf, Santa Claus, Funny Christmas, mechasanta, werewolves, holiday, funny christmas, christmas cartoon, eyewire, citizen science,

FACT:

Santa Claus is real.

FACT (lesser known):

He’s actually a robot, in order to get to people’s houses on time in the span of a single night. His horde of elves is still flesh and blood, however.

FACT (definitely not well known):

Mecha Santa, as he prefers to be called, has been in an ongoing turf war concerning the North Pole. The other party in this debacle? Werewolves.

… You don’t believe us?

We assure you that if skepticism is making this too much for you to handle, you’re welcome to check out The Complete, 100% Real, Impeccably Researched History of the Mecha Santa/Werewolf Territorial Dispute, 1456 AD to the Present, authored by EyeWire’s very own admin Devon Jones, to be self-published next month. The publication would have been today, but this was halted in light of recent developments at the Pole, which have required revisions… and also help from Eyewirers!

Namely, intelligence from the Arctic Werewolves has just now chillingly demonstrated that the Werewolves have invented a magical elixir that allows them to not only shift into their wolf forms during the full moon, but also at any other time of their choosing. So it is that when Mecha Santa least expects it, the Werewolves are planning to attack the elves’ workshop and ruin the Pole’s current economic infrastructure. Whether you want to save Christmas or just embark on a humanitarian (elfitarian?) mission, the Werewolves need to be stopped in their tracks!

Between Friday 12/4 and Friday 12/11, we will follow the timeline below to assist Mecha Santa and the elves.

MechaSanta-Calendar

*All times given are Eastern Standard Time (EST).*

Accuracy Happy Hours

First session runs 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Friday 12/4
Second session runs 10:00 PM to 11:59 PM on Friday 12/4

During either timeslot (or both), trace cubes like usual for standard Happy Hour bonuses, but your accuracy will also be measured to give out additional points and badges. If you trace during both slots, your best accuracy figure will be the one that counts. If you get 80% accuracy or higher, your target practice for fighting the Werewolves will be considered officially up to snuff!

Swag:
1 t-shirt for whoever traces at least 20 cubes with the highest accuracy
1 poster each for whoever traces at least 20 cubes with the 2nd and 3rd highest accuracy

Bonuses:
1st Place Accuracy – 10,000 points
2nd Place Accuracy – 8,000 points
3rd Place Accuracy – 6,000 points
Achieve 95% Accuracy – 5,000 points
Achieve 90% Accuracy – 3,000 points
Achieve 80% Accuracy – 2,000 points
1,000 points for anyone under 80% who still plays at least 10 cubes in either slot.
(These bonus thresholds are non-cumulative, i.e. they will not combine. If you earn 3rd place, for instance, and presumably got over 95% accuracy, you still earn a 6,000 point bonus, not 11,000.)

Begins at 10:00 PM on Friday 12/4
