Grim’s Haunted Mansion: Horror Movie Marathon!
By the time that the epic sporting match starts to wind down, you are definitely tuckered out, but you know Grim will be gone a little while longer from his mansion. Surely he intended for you to do something else here— something else to make you “a little more like Grim.” Whether that means something spooky, fun, or both, you decide to explore the rest of the house and see if there are any more notes.
The parlor has nothing. The study has nothing. The bathroom has nothing… but ah. Here in the kitchen again, what’s this? The door to the basement, of course. You haven’t seen that floor at all. As you let this door creak open, you fumble for a lightswitch, and some old, sparsely scattered sodium and fluorescent lamps flicker to life. And don’t really stop flickering. The concrete steps lead you down into a chilly, wood-paneled rec room that might have a few roaches crawling around. At least, you hope they’re “only” roaches. What might be creepier is all the weird 1970s floral prints on the upholstery, dyed in cringe-inducing Harvest Gold.
Before one decrepit sofa sits an old-school VCR and a cathode-ray TV, complete with antenna. Taped to the screen is, lo and behold, another note:
Greetings again, dear minion. This is your final test. In the cabinet to your left sits a collection of films. Should you be able to watch all of them in the span of a day, you shall come to understand how I spend my weekends. Is that not a side of the Reaper about which you have always wondered?
The challenge seems simple enough, but as you open this cabinet, dread suddenly fills you… for the movies in question are a poorly organized series of VHS tapes, some of them missing labels and cases, others bearing cases with such obscure titles and tacky art that this collection can only contain one solid theme. It’s the Grim Reaper’s low-budget horror movie library, save us all. Starting at 8:00 AM EDT on 10/25, you will have 24 hours to complete a single cell and not lose your mind from wooden dialogue and crummy special effects!
Swag: 1 shirt, 1 mug, and 1 poster will be raffled among the top 25% of participating players!
Bonuses for your participation:
Trace 20 cubes – 2,000 point bonus
Trace 50 cubes – 5,000 point bonus
Trace 150 cubes – 20,000 point bonus
Trace 300 cubes – 40,000 point bonus
For every 150 cubes above 300 cubes – 2,500 points
If the cell is completed as hoped within 24 hrs, mappers who:
- Trace at least 50 cubes will win rights to vote on a new name for the marathon cell.
- Trace at least 200 cubes will win rights to nominate a new name for the marathon cell.
Think you can make it? Time will tell. Good luck!!!
