Eyewire Museum Marathon

art, art history, competition, fun, marathon, Eyewire, neurons

Wednesday, April 24 @ 8 AM ET – Thursday, April 25 @ 8 AM ET

Swag: The top player (defined by number of points earned during the marathon time period) will win a pencil pouch full of goods! 2 pencil pouches and 3 sticker sheets will be raffled among the top 25% of participating players, too.

For our final event we’re going to check the Eyewire Museum, which can be viewed at museum.eyewire.org!

Eyewire’s Museum is a scientific tool which allows scientists and non-scientists alike to view cell groups and relevant data about these groups including their location, and dendrite directions within our current Eyewire dataset, e2198!

Beyond its scientific value, the Eyewire Museum also allows us to see beautiful depictions of microscopic cells we wouldn’t otherwise be able to view. Behold, the artistic hand of mother nature herself!

Our current dataset also comes from the retina, so you are viewing cells that play an important part in the visual process, you know, the process that allows you to engage with many artistic mediums! So you’re seeing the cells that allow you to see. There’s definitely some kind inception joke to be made here…

There’s also definitely been some artistic license taken when it comes to the colors of these cells, so enjoy all the colors of Eyewire’s cell rainbow!

Feel free to use these cells or any of the cells up on Eyewire in your own artistic enterprises.

Now it’s time to get to the marathon, maybe the cell(s) we complete in the next 24 hours will eventually take their rightful places amongst the Eyewire Museum cells. There’s only one way to find out! Let’s start tracing!
