Dragon vs. Phoenix: The Rematch!

citizen science, Eyewire, dragon, phoenix

Sometimes a VS rolls around that’s just so intriguing, so wondrous, you can’t help but visit it again. Back in 2015, we hosted a duel between the magical dragon and phoenix of Chinese legend. The phoenix won last time, but what about this time? The competition starts at 11 AM EDT on 8/16 and goes for 24 hours!

Let’s review the matchup:

Dragon (龙)

  • Embodies the principle yang, also rules over water and weather
  • Associated with the lucky number 9 and good luck in general
  • A dragon’s power of flight is just the tip of the iceberg!

Phoenix (凤凰)

  • Embodies the principle yin, and its colored feathers represent the five Confucian virtues: altruism, honesty, knowledge, integrity, and propriety
  • Associated with fire, justice, weddings, and celestial favor
  • Despite the usual English translation of 凤凰, this Chinese firebird doesn’t burn itself up like the Greek kind

All info about points bonuses is available through your competition notification on eyewire.org. For science!
