The veil between this world and Grim’s eldritch dimension has begun to grow thin. As you traverse the usual fields of cubes, something flickers before your eyes. Slowly, it comes into focus: the shape of a large, old house, built from creaking timbers and hung with countless cobwebs. This is Grim’s mansion indeed! It’s time for his housesitting mission. While the premises do appear ominous, you mount the crumbling front steps and push open the door.
As you enter the foyer, a gas lamp overhead flares to life of its own accord, and the shadows are beaten back– just a bit. It’s enough to appreciate the occupant’s sense of gothic decor, and it’s enough to see a note in Grim’s handwriting tacked to the bannister of the grand staircase, reading, Up to the attic, dearest minions.
This must be a sign for the first lesson that Grim wishes to impart. The house is several storeys, so it’s a long climb, but the lamps keep lighting themselves up for you as you go. That is… until you find the attic door and haul yourself up into pitch black. After a few uncertain moments, a (friendly) whispering voice sounds in your ears:
“Welcome, visitor. I am the spirit of Grim’s attic. Do not be afraid! The Reaper wishes for you to learn how to travel in darkness, as he does. And so… you shall become a little bat, and use the power of echolocation. Let us see whether you can navigate this obstacle course.”
And just like that, there’s a poof, and you feel smaller… fuzzier… airbone! When you try to respond to the voice, you let out a squeak that bounces around the space, and it feels as if you can suddenly see all the boxes and crates of Grim’s keepsakes. You’ll have two opportunities to try flying around and avoid crashing into things! All times are EDT:
Session 1 – 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on 10/20
Session 2 – 10:00 PM to midnight on 10/20

Mentors: You are still allowed to mentor people during these time windows. Please just use your best judgment as to whether someone is asking you for basic newbie help vs. trying to have you boost their accuracy on cube after cube.
Scythes: Please avoid scything during these time windows. Even though accuracy for this will be retroactively calculated, we would prefer to go with accuracy based on players’ raw tracing. By the time this challenge is scored, don’t worry, admins will have corrected consensus as needed.
