The Great EyeWire Crash of Dec 11th, 2012

EyeWire temporarily went down on Dec 11th. We’re now back online.

At 2:00 pm on December 11th, 2012, the wildly popular Facebook Page “I F*ing Love Science” posted about EyeWire.  By 2:03 pm, our servers were down.  First the local host fell. Then the blog gave visitors a 404. Finally, the master server went down. Madness ensued.

EyeWire is under Heavy Load, 404

Over the course of the next five hours, tens of thousands of people visited – or tried to visit – EyeWire. We’ve temporarily sorted out the high traffic by capping access. Currently, a small, random percentage of visitors are able to enter the game.

We are working to correct this problem as soon as possible. In the mean time, here’s what we have to say about IFLS and the Great EyeWire Crash of Dec 11th, 2012.
