Eyewire Competition Updates for 2025

Happy New Year, Eyewirers! We hope you’ve had a nice holiday season. As sometimes happens in January, it’s time for the GMs to give a little update about what to expect from our regularly scheduled competitions.

The first thing to know is that as other projects at Seung Lab gather more steam we have a lot of different things to administrate, so this year — more than ever before — it’s possible that what we estimated would make sense for a competition calendar at the start of 2025 is not what we need to do as the year advances. So you may receive more than one update like this within the next 12 months! However, please rest assured that we’ll still prioritize as much consistency as we can and attempt to give fairly advanced notice if something does have to change. Even with the competition calendar slimmed down, we understand these events still remain an integral part of the Eyewire experience!

With that prologue aside, let’s break down what will be happening with each type of competition in 2025.

Weekly Happy Hours

These will be continuing without any changes!

Monthly Accuracy Happy Hours

These will not be happening this year, based on recent participation levels.

Monthly Team VS

These will also be continuing!

Challenge Weeks

These are expected to continue, but with several changes. The first challenge week will be moved to March instead of February, though the May and August challenge weeks will go unaffected. Also, there will be no Accuracy Happy Hour or Hunt components; the format will be just a VS, a Trivia Power Hour, and a Marathon.

Hallow-Xmas

This may continue somewhere in its usual time window of late October through early December, but probably in a shortened version. We will post with an update about this particular event when the time draws nearer.

Swag

Swag for competitions is once again largely on hold, but of course we’ll update if this changes too!

That should cover everything, short and sweet. But if you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail us at support@eyewire.org! Thanks for reading, thanks for playing Eyewire, and we’ll see you on the game.
