What’s that I hear? EyeWire now has sound!

Greetings EyeWirers!

We are pleased to announce EyeWire’s release of Tunes to Trace by, an audio experience to complement your visual gameplay.

Eyewire Tunes to Trace by, eyewire, sounds, eyewire audio

So sit back, relax, put a nice pair of headphones on, and delve deep into a complete A/V EyeWire paradise.

New Audio for EyeWire

Thanks to audio team John “Slide20xl” Smith V and Julian Samal in collaboration with dev Will Silversmith (@sapphiresun) for EyeWire’s great new music and SFX!

EyeWire’s score, the Sonic Shuffle, was composed by John.  It has a variation of rotating ambient themes, meant to enhance your EyeWire play.

Tracks in the Sonic Shuffle:

  • Neural Air (intro)
  • The Neural Stream  (overview)
  • Inspiration (overview)
  • Ideas (tracing)
  • Labwork (tracing)
  • Making Connections (tracing)

During gameplay, clicking on cube segments will induce pleasant chime notes that will always be complimentary to the current piece of music playing.  Be on the lookout for a detailed blog post on the complex way the score was written sometime in the near future!

John (@slide20xl) and Julian (@juliansamal) have also created new of sound effects for variety of EyeWire buttons and menu items.  Click around the site and see if you can discover them all!

Improved Menus

Besides the new audio, Alex Norton, in collaboration with WIll, has also designed some slick new help and settings menus.

Settings Menu

Under the Settings menu (gear icon) you can adjust the sounds to your personal preference.  Turn down the music real low and really hear the SFX, or bump the volume up to 11!  There’s also now the option to turn chat sounds on or off independently of the other audio.

All of your regular settings options are also available in the settings menu, but now with a new look.  Click the “More” button to access all of them.

And as always, feel free to enable/disable all sounds at once by clicking the megaphone icon.

Help Menu

There is also a new design for the Help menu (question mark icon).  This menu now features keyboard and mouse images to give you an easier understanding of how each command works.  EyeWire is such a visual game we figured you’d want a visual help menu to compliment it!

Scroll to the bottom of the Help menu to see local HQ time, FAQs, or contact HQ.

Additional New Features

Scrolling

EyeWire now supports keyboard scrolling in the overview!  Use the arrow keys to move left, right, up down, or even diagonally along the cell branches.

Flip Orientation

You can now change the orientation of the plane by using the arrow keys or the A+D keys.

Overview Loading Speed

Changing your computer speed now effects how quickly the overview loads.  Turn on Awesome to see more cell details at further distances.  Slower speeds will wait to load until you zoom closer to the branch.

Confirm No More

EyeWire will no longer ask you if you wish to confirm when you submit, skip, or restart a cube.  This should make it easier to trace quickly.  But don’t forget to be 100% sure you’re done when you submit a cube!

Buttons for Explore Mode

Explore Mode now has clickable buttons that allow you to commit and discard along with the keyboard shortcuts “CTRL+M” and “CTRL+D.”
