Here’s a new iPhone and Android lock screen background featuring a render of a cortical column found within the dataset that will become Neo. We don’t really know what the structure does yet. Anatomically, cortical columns are a common brain structure consisting of a vertical set of cells with apical dendrites that rise in a cluster to reach the same region of Layer 1 of cortex. This render shows all excitatory pyramidal cells. Neo should shine some light on the functional and computational elements of this structure!
Below you can see how dendrites (blues, purples) in the column rise together in a column-like configuration.
