Q&A with @kaikue

What’s the origin of your username?

At my high school, we were assigned email addresses based on the first three letters of our first and last names. Mine rolled off the tongue pretty well (rhymes with “haiku”), so I kept using it. Fun fact: this is the same origin as iPhone and PS3 hacker George “geohot” Hotz.

What’s your favorite video game?

My favorite game of all time is probably Minecraft. I like playing with mods and building complicated machines to automate things. My favorite games that came out in 2019 are Baba Is You, Untitled Goose Game, and How to Be a Tree (https://zaphos.itch.io/how-to-be-a-tree). I’m a big fan of games that take a weird core mechanic and make it into a fun experience.

What’s the best programming language?

For simple things Python is easy and fun to use. For bigger projects I like C#. I’ve done a lot of game development in Unity, which uses C# for scripts.

Favorite food?

I like sushi a lot. I went to Japan this summer and was surprised how different actual Japanese food is from Japanese food in America. They don’t have as many sushi rolls there, but they have a lot of other great food like ramen and katsu, and it’s all really cheap.

What’s the best emoji?

One emoji that I really like is 😤. I don’t know what emotion it’s supposed to convey but the steam coming out of its nose always makes me laugh.

Is a hot dog a sandwich?

Under the Four Foods Theory, all foods fall into one of four categories: substance, pizza, sandwich, or soup. A hot dog is monobreadular (the bun is a single contiguous piece of bread); therefore a hot dog is a pizza, not a sandwich.

What is your favorite TV show?

My favorite finished TV show is Person of Interest. Currently I’m watching the superhero shows on the CW, which aren’t very good but I like them anyway.

Favorite breakfast food?

On weekdays I usually have a small yogurt. On weekends I’m a fan of waffles with fruit.

If you were stranded on a deserted island but you could bring 3 items, what would they be?

A genie that grants unlimited wishes, a machine that lets me change the underlying rules of hypothetical situations, and sunscreen.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I would visit the Underground Kingdom of Mole People, a vast network of inhabited caves beneath the Earth’s surface. While the Mole People’s customs may seem bizarre to surface-dwellers, they have a lot to teach us if we would only open our hearts. If that’s not an option for some reason, Atlantis.

Do you have any hidden talents?

I’m really good at updog.
