It’s finally time to deploy Notifications!

On Friday, June 1, Eyewire Notifications go live. Competitions, news, and special events will now be easy to find and keep track of thanks to the notifications bell that now lives in your Eyewire top bar.

The initial launch consists of five notification types: one for each category of competitions (Happy Hour, Versus, and Marathon) and two custom text-based notifications. The system also allows notifications to player classes and groups of players.

There is no more “Challenge” tab up top. Players are now autoenrolled in Happy Hours and Marathons, while team joining is built into the announcement notification. Also, the links (Blog, Forum, etc.) on your top bar have now been rolled into the hamburger menu in the top right of Eyewire, as well as Sign Out.

This release rolls in an update to Eyewire competition scoring as discussed here. It should result in players earning slightly more points, as well as greatly simplifying scoring. Bonuses and other rewards are now clearly described in each competition announcement notification.

What’s next

Future versions of notifications will expand to show you stats like retro trailblaze points or bonus points won. Post-competition notifications will showcase event metrics and personalized stats. We’ll also be adding sticky notifications, allowing you to see things like competition details while events are running and keep important notifications at the top.

Thank you to all the players who helped us beta test notifications. We appreciate your time and feedback. We plan to focus on the community’s feature requests, so keep the ideas coming to support@eyewire.org. Also please email us if you encounter any issues with notifications. Thanks for playing and being a part of the Eyewire community. For science!
