Eyewire, Msty, neuroscience, robot, cute robot, cute ai, animated robot
Msty, a derpy AI character from the upcoming brain game, Neo, is stoked to see you!

Are you a full stack developer with a passion for games and an interest in the brain? Join a team that is revolutionizing neuroscience with the help of gamers from all around the globe.

In conjunction with The Seung Lab at Princeton University, Eyewire is looking for talented, enthusiastic, relentlessly curious software engineers to take on the challenge of mapping the mammalian brain. Help us answer the ultimate question: How do the 80 billion neurons in your 3 pound brain create thoughts, feelings, and perceptions?

As an Eyewire Developer you will be working with our team to help maintain our current game, which boasts an impressive community of 265,000 players from 186 countries.  You will also be working to develop future neuroscience games which will improve on the citizen science gaming methods already developed in Eyewire.

If you want an idea of what we’ve been up to, check out the links below. We’ve been covered by the New York Times, NPR, Wired, and more:

You don’t need a neuroscience background to apply but you do need to have great programming skills and a love of games. We strongly prefer candidates who have worked on a simple game before or participated in gamejam events, like Global Game Jam.

Interested in joining the team? Submit your application online. Please also email your CV and a longish code sample directly to Chris Jordan at <jobs@eyewire.org> and cc William Wong <william.wong@princeton.edu>.

About the company, teammates, and office space:

Eyewire is a citizen science project that launched in 2012 from MIT. We’re now a part of Princeton and are one of the world’s leading neuroscience endeavors, making discoveries about how neurons translate information from the world outside the brain into something an animal understands. We sit at the intersection of neuroscience, machine learning, crowdsourcing, and design. You can read more about Eyewire in the New York Times (long read, TLDR), check out our fun projects in Fast Company, and watch this recent talk at TEDxKyoto for a concise overview of why we do what we do.

Our small team works out of a sweet WeWork office space in downtown Boston right next to South Station. With this size comes great freedom and autonomy that you won’t get working at a large company. Applicants must live in or be willing to relocate to Boston for this opportunity.

Team members are employees of Princeton University but live in Boston, which means we get great benefits but don’t have to live in New Jersey.  Your Princeton benefits include generous vacation time, health insurance, 401k, tuition assistance, and more.

Each summer, we run an internship program through Mass Art and Eyewire is taken over by illustrators and designers. There are many free events at WeWork. Keyword: free food and interesting people. There’s also free unlimited coffee, tea, and beer on tap.
