It’s the moment you might have thought would never happen: Evil Cubes are BACK!

Back at the start of 2020, Eyewire HQ announced a change to our annual competition schedule that involved a total restructuring of how our Evil Cubes event worked. Then, in typical 2020 fashion, things didn’t exactly work out as planned: we didn’t accrue Evil Cube candidates at the rate we imagined. However, we’re now pleased to reveal that at last, we have a set of 12 sneaky, tricksy little cubes for all of you!

These cubes include a number by our late player @susi, who is still sorely missed and was an expert Evil Cubes collector in the past. Thank you, @susi!

Our overlord the Grim Reaper has also personally vetted these cubes and determined them to be sufficiently evil. So without further ado, here’s what to expect from this resurrected competition event.

EVIL CUBES LAUNCH: 11 AM EDT on Friday 9/24
COMPLETION DEADLINE: 11 AM EDT on Friday 10/15

WHAT TO DO: In the “Change Cell” menu, select “Evil Cubes” from the “Events” category. This will bring up the Evil Cubes set, which does not have overview enabled. Promoted players also cannot use Inspect Mode on these cubes. To play the cubes, just hit “Start Playing” like usual and trace through all 12 cubes to the best of your ability.

BADGES:
90% accuracy or higher – Evil Cubes Grandmaster
80% accuracy or higher – Evil Cubes Master
Everyone else who completes all 12 cubes – Evil Cubes Challenger

BONUSES:
1st Place Accuracy – 8,000 point bonus
2nd Place Accuracy – 5,000 point bonus
3rd Place Accuracy – 3,000 point bonus
Complete all 12 cubes – 1,000 point bonus

Badges and bonuses will be awarded at 4 PM on 10/15.

Players will be able to see how they did on each cube using Review Mode. Because of the rolling Evil Cube submissions, it’s possible you may play an Evil Cube that you personally submitted, but the GMs have made sure that no set has too many cubes by one person, so that there aren’t too many “freebies.” You also won’t be able to identify “your” Evil Cubes by their original IDs, and we’ll refrain from revealing whose cubes we used until the awards. (If we selected one or more of your cubes, you’ll earn the Games Maker badge and an additional 2000 point bonus.)

Get ready for three weeks of diabolical cubical fury!
