A Very Classical Competition
Classical music: there’s no denying that the top composers of the past were rockstars in their time. And really, classical is far from dead. If you tune in to some classical radio, you’ll hear contemporary works right alongside old masterpieces. It’s often relaxing (or energizing) for neuron tracing, too, and even people who don’t usually listen to it may sometimes have a couple of symphonies and sonatas kicking around their music library. Especially someone really popular like Bach, Mozart, or Beethoven.
So, let’s have a little competition, shall we? Let’s see how dedicated our Eyewirers are to their composer of choice.
The Baroque master. Brought counterpoint to a whole new level. Especially known for his works for organ and other keyboard instruments, but also found success with plenty of others. An excellent source of puns.
The ultimate child prodigy. His more than 600 compositions have held a huge legacy in the history of Western music ever since. Died while writing his mysteriously commissioned Requiem Mass.
The archetypal troubled genius. Proved a bridge into the 19th century Romantic style. His Symphony No. 9 is regarded by many as one of the greatest musical works of all time, and he wrote it while deaf. Nice.
The competition starts at 11:00 AM EDT on 9/17 and runs for 24 hours.
