Cinderella VS Kongji and Patzzi

The story of Cinderella is one of the most well-known tales in the world. But contrary to what many people believe, it is not just one story…

 Most people have heard about the European Cinderella who was abused by her evil stepmother and stepsisters. Thanks to a bit of magic from a nice fairy godmother Cinderella was able to attend the royal ball and charmed everyone, including the prince! Alas, the spells of mama fairy were not very durable (so much for European quality) and at the stroke of mid-night it all unravelled. Cinderella fled the scene in horror and despair; but left behind a glass shoe for the prince to find. In the end the prince (the creepy stalker) was able to track down Cinderella, merry her and live happily ever after.

 Meet “Kongji”- the Korean Cinderella : Kongji – like her European kindred spirit – is a poor soul who is mistreated and abused by both her stepmother and stepsister “Patzzi”. But unlike the story of Cinderella, this fairy tale does not end well for our unfortunate heroine … Let’s just say that in the Korean Cinderella story there is no happy ending: First poor Kongji pays the ultimate price (her life) when Patzzi push her into a river to drown! But the story does not end there for Patzzi and the stepmother because the ghost of Kongji returns to haunt them! In the end Patzzi gets sentenced to a horrible death and her mom falls into a coma from which she never awakes.

Cinderella

Advantage

• Abused and treated badly by the wicked step-mom and two mean step-sisters.

Kongji and Patzzi

Advantage 

• Dressed in a beautiful silk dress (so called “Hanbok”) and a pair of floral shoes to attend the party thanks to a heavenly fairy

• Killed by Patzzi(the jealous step-sister), but returns as a ghost to take revenge

Disadvantage

• Treated badly(mistreated) by the cruel step mother and the jealous step sister called “Patzzi”
• A series of impossible mission to complete before the party
