How much of the J cell is done?

It’s clear from the 3D overview on EyeWire that we have already mapped a large fraction of a J cell.  It’s hard to know exactly how much of the cell remains, but we estimate that over one third was completed on J Day.  It was truly exhilarating to watch the cell growing throughout the day.  Our community advanced even more rapidly than I had hoped.  Keep in mind that mapping the entire cell would take weeks for a professional neuroscientist.

J Day Recap EyeWireBelow I’d like to acknowledge the hundreds of people who EyeWired on J Day, especially the top 15 EyeWirers who were on the leaderboard as the clock struck 12 on Monday night.  Some of you have been faithful EyeWirers for months, some of you came back for the excitement of J Day, and many of you joined and learned so rapidly that you climbed to the top of the leaderboard on your first or second day.  Amazing!

We’ve made a great start, but we still have a ways to go.  Let’s finish the J cell as soon as we can, so we can glimpse the full glory of its lovely shape!
