April Marathon: Boston Marathon
As many of you already know, EyeWire Headquarters is based in the beautiful city of Boston, home of the Boston Marathon! The Boston Marathon is the oldest annual marathon in the world, and attracts an average of 30,000 participants each year.
Though tragedy struck in 2013 when bombs went off at the marathon finish line, Boston has persevered, and is set to host a great race in 2015.
To celebrate one of New England’s favorite sporting events, we are having our own EyeWire marathon this Friday! We encourage you to trace as many cubes as possible within 24 hours on our Boston Marathon cell.
EyeWire’s marathon begins on 4/24/15 at 10 PM ET. Before it begins, get some tips on good marathoning form from the Boston Marathon, which begins today, 4/20/15 at 9:30 AM ET. You can watch it via livestream here.

Participate in the marathon and you could win one of:
- 15 T-shirts
- 10 Posters
- 5 Mugs

The top 5 players in the marathon will automatically recieve EyeWire t-shirts. The rest of the prizes will go into a lottery. Anyone who completes 100 cubes or more in the marathon will be entered into the lottery.
Points bonuses for participating in the April marathon:
Complete 20 Cubes – 2,000 point bonus
Complete 50 cubes – 5,000 point bonus
Complete 150 cubes – 20,000 point bonus
Complete 300 cubes – 40,000 point bonus
For every 150 cubes above 300 cubes – 2,500 points
If the cell is completed within 24 hrs, mappers who:
- Complete at least 50 cubes will win rights to vote on a name for the April marathon cell.
- Complete at least 150 cubes will win rights to nominate a new name for the April marathon cell.
