A Magical Battle: Dragon vs. Phoenix

In imperial China, the dragon and the phoenix were respectively associated with the Emperor and the Empress, representing a divine harmony. What would happen if that harmony fell out of balance? For this week’s VS battle, pick your magical creature and trace to determine who the winner would be.

TEAM DRAGON (龙)

  • Embodies the principle yang
  • Ruler of water and weather
  • Associated with good luck and the lucky number 9
  • In art of China and surrounding countries, dragons are so hardcore that they don’t even need wings to fly— and they have a ton more powers than just flying.
  • Dragons are flat out awesome. You can read more about their significance in China here!

TEAM PHOENIX (凤凰)

  • Embodies the principle yin
  • Associated with fire, justice, weddings, and celestial favor
  • Its colored feathers represent the five Confucian virtues: altruism, honesty, knowledge, integrity, and propriety
  • Although we call the 凤凰 a phoenix in English, it doesn’t burn up and resurrect itself like the Greek phoenix does. It’s simply a powerful, fiery bird.

The competition will start at 11:00 AM EDT on 10/8 and continue for 24 hours.

The usual bonuses:
Earn 5,000 points – 2,500 bonus
Earn 15,000 points – 5,000 bonus
Earn 25,000 points – 10,000 bonus
For every 25,000 points above 25,000 – 5,000 bonus
Member of winning team (if you’ve scored at least 2,500 points) – 10,000 bonus
Highest scorer on each team – 5,000 bonus
Player with #1 overall score – 10,000 bonus
Player with #2 overall score – 5,000 bonus
Player with #3 overall score – 2,500 bonus
